Shaving is probably the simplest and the least painful way to remove the unwanted hair. It is the most common, quickies and cheapest method to get rid of the unwanted hair and is especially effective on legs, underarms and bikini area.
When you shave you remove only the tip of the hair shaft that has grown out through the skin. In other words you don’t remove the hair root and unfortunately the hairs usually grow back after a few days / from 1 to 3 days/.
All you need when shaving is some warm hot water, a razor, shaving gel or foam and body lotion.
Invest in good razor designed especially for women. Razors come if different forms – there are standard razors and electric razors. Always use shaving gel or cream as this will prevent the razor cutting your skin and will make it easier for you to shave the hair. Shaving sometimes may scrape the natural oils off your skin and that’s why using a shaving gel is essential. The gel will allow the razor to glide easily and not nick or cut your skin.
Pros of shaving:
fast way to remove the unwanted hair
easy method
painless
inexpensive
Cons of shaving:
it lasts not more than 1 to 3 days
razor burn, bumps, nick and cuts
ingrown hair
the hair grow back thicker
How to shave correctly:
For a smooth and close shave use a new blade. Always shave in the shower with warm water – it will soften the hairs and opens the pores. It will relax the hair follicles, making them easier to shave.
Wet your legs and apply a shaving gel or shaving foam to keep the skin moist, making sure to cover the sides of your legs. If you don’t have a gel or cream lathering up with soap will also work.
Allow the hair to soak in water for 5/ 10 minutes, this way the hair will become softer and pliable.
Shave in the opposite direction of hair growth, staring at the ankle draw the razor up the leg. Don’t press too hard but don’t be too gentle. Always shave up the leg not down.
Rinse the blade between every stroke and keep it wet all the time
Repeat until all hairs are removed
Rinse your legs thoroughly and at the end apply a body lotion or cream to soften and moisturize your skin.
Tips:
Never shave your hands or face – the skin in these areas is very delicate and sensitive
Never shave a moustache as it will grow back stubbly
Always use shaving gel or foam when shaving
Shave in the shower after your skin has been softened by warm water
Always apply a moisturizing lotion or cream to keep your skin soft and moisturized
To avoid ingrown hairs shave in the direction the hair grows
Use blades that have safety guard wires to minimize the nicks and cuts
Change your blades often
If you need to shave a specific area twice, apply additional shaving gel
Never shave if your skin is very dry, sunburned or if you have open wounds
Never share your razor with someone else
Avoid shaving with a dull or blunt blade – a dull blade can leave your face feeling raw and sore
Never apply deodorant or antiperspirant right after shaving
Never shave directly with a razor
Exfoliate your skin before shaving to remove all the dead skin cells that could clog up your razor
Do not shave dry
